Connecticut Gun Code of 1650:
"All persons shall bear arms, and every male person shall have in continual readiness a good musket or other gun, fit for service."

The Second Amendment, as passed September 25, 1789:
"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
